Miki Dora, the original anti-hero of surfing
, embodied the ideals of 50s and 60s beach culture, even as he vehemently opposed the establishment and the rapid commercialization developing around him. Although he ultimately turned his back completely on his beloved Malibu and the world of surfing in general, travelling the globe and spending time in prison for counterfeiting, his role in surfing and in our imagination is canonised in graffiti on the wall of Malibu that appeared shortly after his departure: "Dora Lives".

After years of work and compiled with the cooperation and permission of Da Cat before his death in 2002, Dora Lives is the definitive recording of this controversial figure. Edited by Tom Adler, the hardcover book features transcribed interviews with the subject, biographical texts written by Steve Pezman, founder of TSJ, artist and collaborator with Dora, Craig Stecyk, and former editor of Surfer magazine, Drew Kampion, and includes nearly 100 surf images, stills from films, and photographs from Dora's personal albums. This offering comes from a limited edition of 500 numbered and signed copies by Adler with the official heritage stamp of Dora, and includes a Lambda print of a 5 x 7 inch still of Dora in action taken by Grant Rohloff.
