Following on from the fine work published in 2019 to celebrate its 20 years of existence, this time the webzine sets out to shed light on the premier golden age of French rap: that of the 1990s, the decade of its explosion. From Rapattitude - the genre's first compilation - to Saïan Supa Crew's KLR, from Suprême NTM's Monde de demain to the Fonky Family's Si Dieu veut..., French rap became a fixture in record stores, the media and, more broadly, the cultural landscape. Discover this rise to power with hindsight and passion. Elle explores 200 records with commentary by the Abcdr du Son editorial team and the authors of the chosen works. Classics byIAM, MC Solaar, Ministère A.M.E.R., La Cliqua or Lunatic rub shoulders with releases that haven't enjoyed the same media coverage. Sometimes singular, sometimes enigmatic, these albums also say something about this effervescence. An ideal record library for understanding the genre and its impact in France, the book is also a retrospective of an era. Launched in 2000, L'Abcdr du Son is in many ways the fruit of French rap's 1990s. After celebrating the genre in 2019 with the book L'Obsession Rap, the webzine continues, more than 20 years after its launch, to document the news and history of the scene with undiminished enthusiasm.
